Miraval Cotes De Provence
Our Wine of the week for the 22nd of June is Miraval Cotes De Provence.
The Miraval Estate is owned by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and this lovely bottle is £16.99 at Carpanini’s Emporium, Abergavenny.
Chateau Miraval is one of the only estates in Provence to have its own private valley on the Commune of Correns to the north of Brignoles.
The vineyard covers two appellations: Coteaux Varois en Provence (at the north-west) and Côtes de Provence (at the East of the estate).
The vineyard is planted on a gentle slope (between 5% and 9%) on clay and limestone soils. The sub-soils are known as Keuper marl. This particular clay is known to have a low internal surface area and is particularly adapted to great white varietals.
This wine is issued from the Château’s best parcels and from selected parcels in the best terroirs of the appellation.
The appearance is clear and bright.
The nose is complex with notes of white flowers, lime, peach and sweet spices (liquorice).
The mineral character on the palate extends into a beautiful and delicate bitterness.
The freshness and savoury character of this 2014 reveals a minerality unique to the great soils of this region and the finish has a lingering aroma.
